How over/unders work in football betting

How do the over/unders work in football betting?

Football Betting
This text is based on our personal experiences and represents our opinions.
If you have started exploring submarkets on football betting, then you will have come across a whole host of fascinating bets. These bets provide some good alternative to fixed odds outright one, and one of the most popular of these sub market bets is the Over/Under. What is the Over/Under? Well, normally for football betting, you will see the Over/Under bet being mainly employed on the amount of goals in a match. For example, the standard for this is the Over/Under 2.5 goals in a match. Go to that market and all you have to do is decide whether or not the game in question is going to have more or less than 2.5 goals. The prices are not going to vary too much between the two options, but they are still worth looking at and playing. Whichever way you go in your betting strategy, you will need the game to back you up on the day,. If you go Under 2.5 goals, then you want to see no goals, one or two in the match (it doesnít matter who scores them, itís just the total in the match). This is by no means limited to Over/Under 2.5 goals, as browsing through your online bookmaker, you will probably see alternative values being presented, such as Over/Under 3.5, Over/Under 1.5 and the prices will vary in relation to the teams playing in the match, and the amount of goals set in the market.

So why the half goal values? Bookmakers have to use a half goal as a kind of tiebreaker when they set the Over/Under limit. As a player on the pitch is never going to score half a goal, it is a way of giving a definitive outcome on the betting market. If it was just Over/Under 2 Goals for example, then if the total in the match was two goals, then the market selection would be void. The half goal simply avoids the outcome of that happening on the Over/Under market. So, for an Over 2.5 goals bet to win, you need the teams to hit three goals. The bookmaker sets the target value, and you as the punter have to decide whether to go under or over, it is as simple as that. If you take a good look around the markets, then you will see that the Over/Under bets are just limited to the total match goals either. There are all sorts of other markets in this category, and it will depend on your bookmaker as to which will be presented of course. For example, there may be an Over/Under on the number of corners in a match. There may be an Over/Under on the total of the playerís shirt numbers in the match. There may be an Over/Under on the amount of yellow cards shown in the match. When you really start shopping around, there are some very interesting, and fun markets to explore. Over/Unders are not going to bring you extensive odds, primarily because there is a 50/50 chance of the result being right. However, they are a nice way to accentuate your football betting, and it is a market which is worth shopping around in.
