Bet365 3/1 odds on Liverpool to beat Manchester City 2017-09-09

Betting Events

This is such an interesting clash between two of the potential titlists for this season in the Premier League. Liverpool took four points off City last season in the top flight and they just handled them so well. The Reds have come firing out of the blocks with eight goals in just three games played while City have been struggling to get their front players up and running despite all the shopping that they did over the summer. Both start the Etihad clash on seven points, who will pick up another three?

Liverpool are at the kind of price that you can’t just pass up. They took a 1-1 draw at the Etihad last season in the league and that was after a 1-0 home win that they took over City. Liverpool weren’t a great defensive side last season but they handled City and well and actually Liverpool got things right time and time again against the top sides in the Premier League. They were really the force to be reckoned with of the top four finishers and they would love to stamp their authority over City once more and there is a reason to suggest that they will.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last five Premier League games against Manchester City now with a W2 D3 record so they can boast the head to head form over them. Plus they have gotten their attacking players up and running immediately with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in particular, looking like huge threats. Those two are 15/8 and 13/8 respectively in the anytime goalscorer market and Liverpool have totalled eight goals in their three league games so far this season. This is all without the influence of Philippe Coutinho of course and remarkably they haven’t actually missed him.

After opening with a 3-3 draw against Watford, Liverpool have won their last two games with a clean sheet, taking out both Crystal Palace and then destroying Arsenal 4-0. So they certainly have it in them and Manchester City haven’t found their rhythm yet this season. Despite having put seven points on board so far just like Liverpool have, the Citizens have had to work a lot harder for their points and have fallen behind in two of their three games played so far. So while they are stacked with quality and power, it hasn’t all come together yet for them this season and this could be a great time for Liverpool to be making the trip to the Etihad to face them.

Despite their being question marks over their defense, particularly after some shaky displays against Watford in a 3-3 draw and their Champions League play off games against Hoffenheim, Liverpool have won their last two Premier League games with a clean sheet and they are a big 8/1 price at bet365 to win to nil on Saturday against the Citizens. That would be a huge result for them. Liverpool do really seem to relish going into these high profile games and last season against the rest of the top six, the Reds really performed.

So the visitors will be in this and will throw down a challenge to the Citizens. Both of last season’s meeting saw two goals or fewer and under 2.5 goals at bet365 for the weekend’s clash is a price of 8/5. Both teams have scored in each of the last four between these at the Etihad. In last season’s campaign, Manchester City struggled to collect wins against the top six sides and therefore with them not having found their gear so this season, they may be feeling just a little bit vulnerable going into this one and at an odds-on price, there is some value in opposing them.
