Bet365 offer 19/20 odds on Man City to beat Man Utd 2018-04-076th April 2018 / lee
The Citizens are standing on the brink of Premier League glory then for the season. If they get the three points they need to seal the title on the weekend, it will be the earliest date ever that the EPL title has been settled on. That’s the power that they have laid down this season in what has already been a record-breaking season for them and with potentially more records still to tumble as well.
Manchester City now have set themselves up with the chance to win the Premier League is probably the greatest way that they could ever have imagined. They get their chance on home soil to lift the title by beating their great city rivals. That would have to be a pretty sweet and satisfactory way for them to get the job done. Will they be able to complete their stellar league campaign this weekend?
Manchester City v Manchester United Odds*
Man City 19/20, Draw 13/5, Man Utd 13/5* (betting odds taken on April 5th, 2018 at 3:08 a.m.)
Manchester City have produced a W14 D1 record on home soil. After opening with a 1-1 draw in their opening home game of the season, it’s just been win after win for them. It’s been phenomenal stuff from them and in their last home game they recorded a victory over Chelsea. They have seen off each of the other current top six this season at the Etihad and it’s hard to imagine that they aren’t going to do the same to Manchester United on the weekend.
The Citizens could use a boost too after losing heavily at Anfield to Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. They will probably want to come out, put on a strong show of force on home soil and get the league title all wrapped up before that second leg with the Reds. Manchester City have netted 51 goals in their 15 home games this season at an astonishing average of 3.4 goals per game. They are not only just about goals, but they have conceded an average of just 0.67 per home game this season.
They have been unplayable at times, keeping a clean sheet in 40% of their home games and Manchester City to win to nil at bet365 is at 5/2 odds* (betting odds taken on April 5th, 2018 at 3:08 a.m.). The Citizens have also been leading at half time in ten of their home fixtures this season so are usually pretty quick out of the gates in building up an advantage even though they have scored 71% of their home goals this season in the second half of matches.
Manchester United will likely turn up with a desire to not lose this game. That is likely going to be more important to Jose Mourinho than winning. The inevitable is going to happen at some point, Manchester City are going to win the league this season, but if Mourinho can prevent it happening under his watch in this game then he will try and make it happen. It wouldn’t be a huge shock to see the Red Devils just try and park the bus and not take on the Citizens.
Mourinho has already had his ego bruised this season with a 2-1 home loss to the Citizens back in December. That has left the Red Devils winless in their last three league fixtures against the Citizens now (D1 L2). Four of the last six meetings between the two sides have ended under 2.5 goals and this one will probably go the same way. Manchester United will try and be as resilient and stubborn of an opponent as they can be, but the class of Man City and the desire to finish the job will probably win out.
