Bookmakers refuse to take a bet on a flat Earth13th May 2018 / lee
This has to be one of the strangest betting stories ever. A Grimsby man has called out bookmakers for not accepting his bet. Gerrard Gallagher has been looking around for a bookie to take his money on that the Earth is flat.
That’s where he wants to put his money and the reason why he thinks that the bookmakers are not taking his money is that because they know that he is going to win.
“I think the reason that they won’t accept my bet is because they know that I am right in saying that the Earth is flat,” Gallacher said, “and if other people joined me in placing the bet they could lose millions.”
Gallacher, who is apparently a Flat-Earther has been arguing that bookmakers should be jumping at the chance to take his money and that he would be happy enough to be proven wrong. “It’s just easy money for them,” Gallacher argued, having tried to place a £100 (around $135) bet several times. He was reportedly told by one operator that it would be too difficult to prove if he was right or wrong.
He also feels that if the bookmaker feels that he is 100 percent wrong and won’t pay out on the bet, they should at least accept it. Part of Gallacher’s argument too is that bookmakers have accepted outlandish bets before, such as Elvis coming back from the dead (William Hill) or when the Apocalypse will happen.
Members of the Flat-Earth movement are convinced that the Earth is indeed flat. In Gerrard’s case he became interested in the subject a few years ago and through his own research is sure of his truth. Part of the belief comes in the argument that no-one has taken a real picture from space and everything that NASA has produced have been computer generated.
Following on from that Gallacher believes that no rocket has been sent into space either, saying “I just don’t believe that we have ever sent rockets into space. I cannot comprehend that if space is a vacuum where there is no air, then what do the rockets propel against?
“I have also viewed footage of amateur weather balloons that clearly show to me that the Earth is flat, as I cannot see a curvature anywhere.
“Another reason that has convinced me is that apparently water is always meant to fall at a level and does not bend. So then how does the Earth manage to bend water all the way around a globe, it just doesn’t seem to add up.
