Grim Reaper spells death of Old Trafford career for Moyes

22nd April 2014 / lee
Paddy Power

Who was responsible for the Grim Reaper publicity stunt at Goodison Park on Sunday in the Premier League? No surprise that it was reportedly Paddy Power who set up a spectator to mock a beleaguered David Moyes. On his his return to Goodison Park, where he spent 11 years in charge of the Toffees, Manchester United boss David Moyes was not only taunted by the home crowd, but ‘Death’ joined the party too.

The picture doing the rounds on the internet depicts an unhappy looking Moyes on the sidelines, while right at the front of the crowd the Grim Reaper is mocking the Red Devils boss, waving around an inflatable scythe. It was a message that Moyes’s difficult season was getting worse as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat.

The ‘Death’ spectator was seen wearing a Paddy Power shirt, and the bookmaker has taken responsibility for the stunt on their own blog. A spokesman from Paddy Power was quoted as saying: “It’s gone from bad to worse for David Moyes this season, which means the Grim Reaper could be looking to call time on his Old Trafford career.”

Well, it turned out to be pretty accurate, as that game at Goodison, turned out to be the death sentence for David Moyes’s Manchester United career. So a pretty accurate portent of things to come and while the Grim Reaper got kicked out of Goodison, a couple of days later the same thing happened to Moyes at Old Trafford.

Veteran Ryan Giggs is the one who took over training at the club following the departure of Moyes. There’s no word on his long term future in that role. So with the Red Devils ready to hand out a big sum of money as a transfer fund in the summer, they now have to find the right man to entrust with spending it.

In a recent poll, Jurgen Klopp was the man that Manchester United fans wanted as the next boss. But new reports are that the Borussia Dortmund manager has played himself out of the running, so all of the action this week has been focused on current Holland boss Louis van Gaal, who will become available in the summer after the World Cup.
