Odds on Arsenal to beat Manchester United 2017-12-0230th November 2017 / lee
The big clash in the Premier League this weekend is Arsenal v Manchester United from the Emirates. This is a game where Arsenal can make a huge impact and a huge move inside of the top four in the league as well because a win puts them to within just a point of the Red Devils who are starting the weekend in second place. So there is a huge incentive here for Arsenal to produce a performance that will see them play some serious catch up to their rivals. The question is, can they get the job done though?
Arsenal v Manchester United Betting Odds
Arsenal 11/8, Manchester United 19/10, Draw 23/10
The Gunners have only lost one of the last six league games against the Red Devils and they are on a two match winning streak at home against them as well, so the signs are there for them to get actually deliver in this one. They have taken back to back clean sheet wins at home to be precise over Manchester United and they, therefore, may not be a bad option to go and claim a win to nil at William Hill for this latest meeting. There are indicators from Arsenal’s overall home form this season that they can actually get that done as well.
Arsenal have won all seven of their Premier League home games this season and they have taken a clean sheet in five of their last six as well. Three of their last five home wins in the top flight have been with a 2-0 scoreline and the Gunners can be baked at a 12/1 price in the William Hill correct score market to win 2-0. Arsenal turned on a real show in midweek to hammer Huddersfield 5-0 at the Emirates and that win was on the back on another impressive one, a 2-0 victory over bitter North London rivals Spurs in their previous home match. So they are carrying big form at home and are looking confident.
They will be without their top scorer Alzada Lacazette who went off injured at halftime in their midweek victory over the Terriers, but Olivier Giroud came on and scored a brace so there’s not too much of an issue there. Arsenal have scored 20 goals in their seven home games this season so they have returned well and have shipped only the four home goals, three of those in their home opener against Leicester which the Gunners won 4-3. So that is 71% of their games at the Emirates in which Arsenal have picked up a clean sheet. The Gunners have opened the scoring in all but one of their seven home games in the league this season and will have United rocking if they strike first in this game.
Manchester United’s away form hasn’t been brilliant recently. They have failed to take a clean sheet in any of their last three out on the road and in that sequence have gone W1 D1 L1. Notably, they have played a couple of big away games recently where they produced a 0-0 draw at Anfield where they parked the bus for 90 minutes and then lost 1-0 at Chelsea just before the most recent international break. They were crashing at 3-0 up against Watford in midweek at Vicarage Road before shipping two goals to allow Watford back into the game. They did hold on to get a killer fourth goal and the three points though.
United are currently on a three match winning streak in the top flight and they have scored nine goals in their last three games. But when the big games come around, Jose Mourinho will generally shut up shop and make not getting beaten the priority. He has only lost one of his 13 previous Premier League contests against Arsene Wenger and if anyone can frustrate a top opponent, it is him. However, they have been struggling for those clean sheets on the road recently and they are facing an Arsenal side who are brimming with confidence on home soil and the Old Trafford crew may be heading back up north with their tails between their legs after this one.
