Arsenal will be looking to extend their two-point lead over Tottenham in the Premier League as the two North London rivals meet on Sunday. This is going to be the highlight of the Premier League weekend.

Not only is there a lot of pride at stake, but one of them could end up losing back to back games after both suffered defeats last season. The odds on Arsenal to beat Tottenham are at 7/5* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on August 29th, 2019 at 6:35 p.m.).

Can Gunners extend winning form against Spurs?

Arsenal do have a bit of home form going over Tottenham in the league. The last time that the Gunners lost a home Premier League game against Spurs was back in 2010. Arsenal are currently on a two-match winning streak at home against the Lilywhites. Last season’s corresponding fixture produced a thrilling 4-2 win for the Gunners.

Arsenal will be looking for a lift after suffering a 3-1 loss at Anfield last weekend against Liverpool. They got their only goal of the game from Lucas Torreira, but that was just a consolation at the end of the fixture. Prior to that Arsenal had won their opening two games of the new league season, one-goal margin wins over Newcastle and Burnley.

Power in Arsenal’s attack

There should be enough in Arsenal’s exciting attack to carve out some chances in this game. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has two goals to his name this season and he will be the focal point of Arsenal’s attack. Arsenal didn’t get their setup right last weekend at Liverpool, but will probably be back to their usual line up with Alexandre Lacazette coming back in. That’s a formidable strike force.

Arsenal also have Nicolas Pepe know who looks to be a growing threat as he adjusts to life in the English Premier League. Arsenal will have seen how Spurs defender Davinson Sanchez has been struggling and they can target him. Aubameyang is the 4/1 First Goalscorer favourite for this high profile North London derby* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on August 29th, 2019 at 6:35 p.m.). Arsenal will stretch their lead to five points over Spurs with a victory.

Home form from Arsenal stacks up well

The Gunners have fired off at least two goals in all but one of their last 11 home games in the top flight. So that is a really strong scoring record that they have and it will be enough to put some pressure on the Lilywhites. On top of that Arsenal have only lost one of their last nineteen Premier League home games. That again is a highly impressive stat to look at.

In total Arsenal collected a W14 D3 L2 record on home soil last season. They also averaged 2.2 goals per home fixtures, conceding at under a goal per fixture at the Emirates. Given that they have won their one home game played in this season’s top-flight (a 2-1 success over Burnley – granted the Gunners didn’t play well in it) then Arsenal look a very strong contender on home soil.

A disappointing season from Spurs so far

It has not been a great start to the new season so far from Spurs. In their opening game of the season at home, they had to fight back from being a goal down to beat Aston Villa. After a crazy 2-2 draw at Manchester City, a game in which Spurs barely touched the ball, Tottenham crashed to a bad 1-0 home loss against a then out-of-form Newcastle. So that’s no clean sheet and their away form is in the gutter. Spurs are winless in their last seven Premier League away games, losing six of those seven.

Arsenal have won their last two home games in the Premier League against Tottenham. They haven’t lost on home soil against them. There has been no away form in the top flight for Spurs for some time now. Arsenal are a good home side and are likely to extend their undefeated home streak against them (league). The odds on Arsenal to beat Tottenham at 7/5 looks full of great value* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on August 29th, 2019 at 6:35 p.m.)
