Odds on Atletico to beat Marseille UEFA Europa league final 2018-05-1615th May 2018 / lee
It is the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday as French side Marseille takes on Spanish giants Atletico. The final is being hosted in Lyon, France and Atletico are looking to make it three Europa league titles from three Europa league final appearances. As for Marseille, they are looking to become the first French side ever to win the competition.
Seven times in the last 12 seasons of the Europa League a Spanish side has gotten their hands on the title. So that’s good news and a good trend for Atletico going into this week’s showdown against Marseille. Atletico failed to get out of their Champions League group stage this season and when they arrived in the round of 32 in the Europa League they were immediately installed as one of the favourites to get their hands on the title.
Marseille v Atletico Madrid Europa League Final odds*
Atletico Madrid 4/5, Draw 13/5, Marseille 17/4
They haven’t disappointed. They have looked strong and confident and hungry to get their hands on this title. The great job that they did in shutting down Arsenal in the semi finals shows just how strong their defence is and they have Europe’s meanest defence as it is and therefore Atletico to win to now have bet365 is at 13/8 odds* (betting odds taken at 9:37 p.m. on May 15th, 2018) and that will be pretty appealing to punters.
Atletico have Antoine Greizmann in fine form at the moment with 19 goals in his last 22 games for the club and he netted a goal in both legs of their semi-final against Arsenal. They have good options and quality in their squad with the likes of keeper Jan Oblak, Koke and Diego Costa. Basically, as well as Marseille have done in this season’s competition they won’t have faced anything like the quality of Atletico Madrid and so this is going to be a big step up in level of opposition for them.
Marseille have had to play their way out of trouble a few times this season in the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League. They have basically been carried through on their strong home form where they have won eight of their nine European matches this season. They won just once away from home though. They are able to produce the goals as they have shown quite, good attacking flair at times this season both domestically and in Europe, but the question marks really over the challenge of Marseille are at the back.
Not only will they have to overcome an Atletico defence which has kept 18 clean sheets in 13 matches now in European games against sides ranked below them, but they will have to try and find a way to shut out the Spaniards as well. Marseille have conceded heavily during their run and if you take a look at their domestic league campaign they conceded 18 goals in their six games (D2 L4) against their fellow top four finishers in France. So that suggests that while they are doing well they may well struggle against one of the best in Europe.
Atletico are clearly the stronger team of the two and the worry about Marseille is just how many goals they have conceded a frankly they are likely still to have a hard time in breaking down Atletico’s men’s defence. The French side may well have a hard time breaking their way into this game and in the correct score market at bet365 an Atletico one-nil result is at 9/2 odds* (betting odds taken at 9:37 p.m. on May 15th, 2018).
