Odds on Chelsea to beat Manchester United 2017-04-1614th April 2017 / lee
The big game on the weekend is Manchester United v Chelsea from Old Trafford and there are some big points at stake in the game. The Red Devils start the weekend four points outside of the Champions League places in the Premier League table but they hold what could be a precious game in hand over those above them. But for that to come into play they are probably going to have to find a way to win in this one, or at least avoid defeat in this home fixture against the Champions-elect.
The Red Devils have only claimed the six home wins this season in the top flight in a W6 D9 L1 record. That is just a 37.5% win percentage, which is United’s worst home win rate in a campaign since 1973/74 (33.3%). But since they went to Stamford Bridge in the league back on October 23rd last year when they lost 4-0, the Red Devils have put a superb 21 match unbeaten streak of form going in the top flight. So that’s impressive but they have drawn five of their last six on home soil in the Premier League.
So they have had trouble converting wins at home this season and they are on a three match drawing streak on home soil. 75% of Manchester United’s home games this season have gone under 2.5 goals. So that shows how badly they have struggled in front of goal and if it weren’t for Zlatan Ibrahimovic they would be in a worse state. Zlatan has 13 goals in his last 17 Premier League appearances for manchester United. But will United’s Thursday night game in the UEFA Europa League set them back somewhat in this tough game.
In the Ladbrokes anytime goalscorer market, Zaltan Ibrahimovic is an 11/10 option with Chelsea’s Diego Costa at 13/10 and Eden Hazard at 13/5. Chelsea will want to drive on to the Premier League title and the more games that they keep winning, the less Tottenham can do about the gap. Chelsea’s lead at the top could be down to just the four points if Spurs win on Saturday against Bournemouth. So the pressure will be on Chelsea to deliver and the Blues have gone W11 D3 L2 out on the road this season. They have won their last three on the bounce away from Stamford Bridge and they are unbeaten in their last six on the road.
As they showed in a recent win over Manchester City, they can deliver in the big games and this really could be their final hurdle on the way to winning the league. Only a trip to Everton at the end of the month looks likely to pose a threat to the Blues. Chelsea have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last nine Premier League games played now and both teams to score with Ladbrokes is a price of 19/20. This is expected to be a low scoring game though, despite Chelsea winning the reverse fixture 4-0.
Manchester united have managed to put just the three goals past Chelsea in their last eight meetings in all competitions. Along with the league defeat against Chelsea this season, Manchester United lost 1-0 at Stamford Bridge against the blues in the FA Cup as well. So can United bag themselves a big three points in their own personal push for a Champions League place? Or will the toughness of the Blues win the battle at Old Trafford?
