Odds on England to beat Belgium – Betting Preview, World Cup 201813th July 2018 / lee
Belgium v England World Cup 2018, 14th July – 4.00 p.m
England’s young Three Lions team were distraught at the end of extra time in their semi final contest against Croatia. After suffering a 2-1 defeat they knew that a golden opportunity had passed them by. They just didn’t have the legs in the second half to hang in there and neither did they have the creativity in the middle of the park to find that second goal to put heat game to bed after having opened the scoring.
Can England rally themselves for this third-place match and get some revenge over Belgium too who beat them in the group stage? Whether it is third or fourth place which they go home in, England can hold their heads high.
Belgium vs England Odds*
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on 12th July, 2018 at 6:22 p.m.)
England have to rouse themselves for one final effort at the 2018 World cup and success would see them go home in third place, their second-best finish ever at World Cup. The Three Lions lost out to Croatia in their semi final trial, going down in extra time after having taken the lead early in the match through a Kieran Trippier free kick. While boss Gareth Southgate will probably turn to fresh legs, there seems to be a determination to not let the semi-final misery define them.
England have a chance to be positive in this third place fixture, just the second one that they have been involved in. After losing the 1990 semi final against West Germany, England lost the third-place match 2-1 against Italy. England haven’t been great with their creativity from open play at all, but they have found the goals and plenty of them, from set pieces and so both teams to score at bet365 is worth a look at 8/15 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from 12th July, 2018 at 6:22 p.m.).
Another non-contest between Belgium and England
Strangely this is the second meeting between the two nations at the tournament and this is the second non-contest. Nothing is really at stake in this game and when they met in the group stage in the final round of matches both had already qualified and no-one looked as if they wanted to win that match. Doing so meant that they would go to the more difficult top half of the draw. Belgium took a 1-0 win, just their second ever victory over the Three Lions in what was a battle of the benches.
How much will see changes in the starting eleven of both of these for Saturday’s game? We may see plenty and that is why we’re are expecting a good open game. Each of the last ten third-place matches at World Cups have gone over 2.5 goals and we are backing this one to go the same way and over 2.5 goals at bet365 is at 3/5 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from 12th July, 2018 at 6:22 p.m.). Frankly, it can’t be any worse of a game than that group stage meeting.
Kane still on target
Harry Kane has looked a bit of a spent force in England’s last two games, having to do a lot of running with no service coming his way at all. He is still on target for the Golden Boot with a two-goal advantage over Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku. Kane is the 15/4 first goalscorer favourite* (Betting Odds were taken from 12th July, 2018 at 6:22 p.m.) for this match on the weekend. So there’s still something personal at stake for him in this one and should see some time.
England have gone W3 D2 L1 in their last six games (over 90 minutes) and going all the way back to the start of September last year they have lost just one game and in none of the games in that sequence did they concede more than one goal in a game. There are plenty of positives for England to take away from this World cup campaign and build on for Euro 2020. A win in this one over Belgium would ease a lot of that semi final heartache and silence a lot of lot critics as well who have pointed out that England have failed to beat the two half decent sides they have faced at this tournament.
Belgium v England Predictions
England can still finish on a high in this one and go home in third place. No doubt Gareth Southgate will shuffle the pack a bit and they will be a bit fresher. The semi final will have hurt, but Belgium are hit and miss in their performances and so England can make a game of this by showing a bit of mental fortitude. Back the Three Lions to get the match win in the outright winner market.
