Odds on Liverpool to beat Chelsea 2018-05-062nd May 2018 / lee
Liverpool will head to Stamford Bridge on the weekend in the Premier League after their successful Champions League exploits on Wednesday. To a very understandable degree, Liverpool’s Premier League campaign has been put on the back burner a little bit because of their campaign in Europe. The Reds still have a little work to do mathematically to get safe but because of their strong goal difference advantage, a point would be enough to secure them their top four finish this season.
Chelsea v Liverpool Odds*
Chelsea 23/20, Liverpool 11/5, Draw 5/2* (Betting Odds taken at 5:37 p.m. on May 2nd, 2018)
Liverpool’s away form this season is W9 D5 L4 and they are unbeaten in their last three on the road in the top flight. They have drawn their last two at Everton and then West Brom, but they had the big distraction of the Champions League. Now that they get the chance of a break from the competition, they can launch themselves back fully into league action and that will make them dangerous once again. With the goals that they have produced and a draw already against the Blues this season there could be a successful afternoon in London for them.
The one thing about their chances though is their record on the road against the other top six sides they have faced hasn’t been good. They lost 5-0 at Man City, 2-1 and Manchester United and 4-1 at Spurs, while played out a 3-3 draw at Arsenal. The Reds have actually only taken one win this season against sides in the current top eight in the table (Burnley). But then again Chelsea have been far from rock solid at Stamford Bridge recently and this is where the Reds can take advantage.
Chelsea are only W2 D1 L2 in their last five league home games and managed just the one clean sheet in that sequence. Home and away combined they have managed only the one clean sheet in their last five games as well. At the Bridge the Blues have won just one of five games so far against current top seven sides. Their win came over Manchester United, while they suffered losses against Man City, Spurs and Burnley and were held to a 0-0 draw by Arsenal.
It hasn’t been good for the Blues and they don’t look settled and composed at the back at all. Both teams to score at bet365 is at 8/13 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 5:37 p.m. on May 2nd, 2018). Chelsea are on a four-match scoring streak at home at the moment and they have averaged 1.6 goals per game. It will be questionable as to whether or not their defence can handle the pace and power of the Liverpool front three though.
Earlier this season Liverpool took a 1-1 draw against Chelsea with former Chelsea man Mo Salah putting the Reds ahead before Willian equalised for the Blues five minutes from time. Liverpool dominated possession in the game though and they have a good current head to head record going against the London club. Liverpool are unbeaten in their last seven league outings against Chelsea now with a W2 D5 record. Both teams have scored in each of the last seven meetings.
Liverpool have taken back to back league wins at Stamford Bridge though and that does make them value to deliver in this one. Because of three 1-1 draws in the last four games between the two of them that is the shortest-priced option in the bet365 correct score market at 6/12 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 5:37 p.m. on May 2nd, 2018) while a Liverpool 2-1 is at 11/1* (Betting Odds taken at 5:37 p.m. on May 2nd, 2018) and many have appeal for those backing the Reds.
