Odds on Manchester City to beat Tottenham 2017-12-1615th December 2017 / lee
The big game of the weekend in the Premier League comes from the Etihad on Saturday evening when Manchester City will be taking to the pitch in search of their sixteenth, yes sixteenth consecutive win in the English top flight. After having proved themselves once again with a victory at Old Trafford last weekend and then a resounding win at Swansea in midweek, it’s back to home soil for the Champions-elect where they will play host to a Tottenham side who are looking to snap some dodgy away form.
Manchester City v Tottenham Odds
Man City 4/7, Draw 10/3, Tottenham 19/4
So let’s just look at Man City’s form this season. They have only dropped two points this season, which was in a 1-1 draw with Everton in their second match of the new term. Since then they have won fifteen games on the bounce in the top flight. Christmas is on the horizon and if City win this game and then beat Bournemouth before Christmas Day, then they will set a new record for having the best points average ever in the top flight of 2.89 points per game at Christmas.
City are 6/1 currently to go unbeaten for the season, to match Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ of the 2003/04 season. While they have now earned the record of the most consecutive wins in the top four tiers of English football, they need to keep going to catch the European record of 19 straight wins that Bayern Munich posted in the 2013/14 domestic season.
So the Citizens seem to have it all. They have turned up and destroyed defences this season and they have ground it out when they have needed to. Let’s not forget that they ave now faced Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United in this winning sequence and have seen all of them off. The Citizens are W7 D1 at home from their eight league games at the Etihad this season and they have netted 28 goals which is a staggering average of 3.5 goals per hem game from them.
They have conceded just six in contrast and 88% of their home games have gone over 2.5 goals. Sergio Aguero is the Coral First Goalscorer favourite at 11/4 for the game and he was on target again in midweek and is flourishing along with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus. Manchester City have scored 2 goals or more in each of their last 10 matches now in the top flight and they are going as strong odds-on favourites to bag themselves another three points on home soil and this is against a classy Tottenham side.
But then City have beaten Liverpool 5-0 and Arsenal 3-1 on home soil this season in their big home fixtures and they are a quote of 8/1 in the Coral correct score market to win this game 2-1. They are taking on a Tottenham side who have been struggling away from home recently. The North London outfit have only picked up the one point in their last four road games and during that sequence, there were telling defeats out at Manchester United and Arsenal, the Lilywhites failing to score in either of those.
Spurs also lost against Chelsea earlier in the season so aside from a comfortable home win over Liverpool, the Lilywhites have struggled in their big matches. Overall they are W4 D1 L3 out on their travels this season and they have conceded an average of a goal per game away from Wembley, which is surely enough of a window for the Citizens to get at them. With just the two goals scored in their last four away games, they may not have the response needed to take on the Champions elect.
