Manchester United step out at Old Trafford on Sunday against Arsenal and a win in the game guarantees them a top-four finish for the season. It has been a pretty solid season from Jose Mourinho’s men even if they have come under a lot of fire for their style of play at times. The Red Devils have been particularly strong at home and in this one, Mourinho will get a chance to make Arsene Wenger’s last visit to Old Trafford with Arsenal an experience to forget.

Manchester United v Arsenal Betting Odds*

Man Utd 4/9, Draw 10/3, Arsenal 13/2* (Betting Odds taken at 6:58 p.m. on April 23rd, 2018)

There has been no love lost between Wenger and Mourinho down the years and with Wenger leaving Arsenal in the summer, this will be the Frenchman’s last chance to land a parting blow with the Gunners over his rival. But unfortunately the Gunners have had a dreadful time of things away from home in the top flight this season and with their distractions of this being sandwiched between the two legs of their Europa League semi-final against Atletico Madrid, it’s not hard to see why Arsenal are underdogs.

The Red Devils go into the game seventeen points clear of the Gunners who are down in sixth place. That’s a huge gap, a huge drop in levels from Arsenal. But to their full credit, Manchester United have been an efficient machine on home soil in the Premier League this season posting a W13 D2 L2 record so far. They were on a brilliant five-match winning stretch at home (three clean sheets) before a shock defeat against West Brom in their last home match.

But that woke them up and they have responded with an away win at Bournemouth and success over Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-finals. Their other home loss was against Manchester City. The stats are there to fully support the Red Devils landing a win in this one. They have averaged over two goals per game at home and their defence has been so tough to break down, which may in a large part be down to the brilliance of keeper David de Gea.

The Red Devils have conceded just the eight home goals in the top flight this season across their seventeen games which is fantastic. They are at 13/10 odds with Bet365 to win to nil* (betting odds recorded at 5:30 a.m. on April 27th, 2018) in this one. 59% of their fixtures this season at Old Trafford Manchester United have won to nil so there is a pretty good trend there. Of the goals that they have conceded and scored at Old Trafford this season, 62% of their goals conceded have been in the first half of matches while 57% of their own goals at home have been scored after the break in games.

Manchester United have scored at least two goals in six of their last seven league games and in each of their last seven league victories. In the bet365 correct score market a Manchester United 2-0 option is at 7/1 odds* (betting odds recorded at 5:30 a.m. on April 27th, 2018) which isn’t a bad proposition when you put everything together. Manchester United’s former Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez had a great game at Wembley last weekend, will he come back to haunt the Gunners?

So Arsene Wenger makes his last trip to Old Trafford as Arsenal manager. Given the away form that Arsenal have produced this season then he may not be looking forward to it. Arsenal have only won three times away from home this season in the top flight and they are currently on a five-match losing streak away from home, winless in six. They have already lost away at Man City, Liverpool and Spurs while playing out a 0-0 draw at Chelsea. That’s just one goal scored in four games against the current top four away from home.

Arsenal drew at home against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday and have the replay to come next week. That is far more important as winning that title gets them to the Champions League next season. So this is something of a distraction for them at the moment. Arsenal’s last win at Old Trafford was in the 2015 FA Cup, but they are winless in their last ten visits there in the league. Wenger may not get a great send off on this visit to OT.
