Odds on Tottenham to beat Arsenal 2018-02-08

There is a big top six clash happening on the weekend from Wembley in the Premier League as the North London derby swings into action and there is a lot of importance riding on this one. It could have a huge bearing on the race for a top-four finish this season. Tottenham starts the weekend in fifth place and four points clear of sixth-place Arsenal. So a win for the Lilywhites would move them out to a huge seven-point advantage and leave Arsenal cut adrift of the top five. However, if Arsenal could find a way to win the thing, then it would pull them to within one point of Spurs and keep their top four hopes alive.

So there are a crucial three points up for grabs then in this one at Wembley. Spurs are going into the fixture with some pretty hot form at Wembley at the moment in the league with a W5 D1 record there in their last six and they have picked up back to back clean sheet wins there as well. After opening their first home game of the season against Chelsea, Spurs are unbeaten in their twelve home games since them with an overall W8 D4 L1 record at Wembley this season in the top flight. They have taken a clean sheet in 46% of their home games and because of that, Tottenham to win to nil at William Hill may have appeal.

Their scoring output has been pretty consistent at home this season with them averaging just over two goals per game at Wembley and given Arsenal’s weak defence on the road this season, that has to get Spurs close to winning this contest. Spurs have scored in each of their last ten home games in the top flight and in total in each of their last fourteen league games home and away. Perhaps the important thing to note is how they have handled themselves in their last two games in what is a tough run of fixtures for them.

The totally destroyed Manchester United at Wembley back at the end of January in their most recent home game, beating the Red Devils 2-0 and making their opponents look really poor in the fixture. That was a great output from Spurs and although they had troubles at Anfield, particularly in the first half with Liverpool running the show, Spurs still managed to get themselves out of trouble in a 2-2 draw thanks to a late penalty from Harry Kane. The Lilywhites had the better of the second half in the match and are unbeaten now in their last eight league games home and away.

Harry Kane is the first goalscorer a favourite with William Hill as to be expected for the clash and he is up to 22 goals for the season with ten of those coming at home for him. Kane has scored in three of Tottenham’s last four league games now and has five in his last four at Wembley in the league as well. Naturally, if he is on his game then he’s going to go cause the Arsenal defence some problems without a shadow of a doubt.

Spurs took a 2-0 win in this corresponding fixture last season and they have scored exactly two goals in three of their last four at home against the Gunners in all competitions. They are unbeaten in their last three Premier League home fixtures against the Gunners with a W2 D1 record in that sequence. They did suffer a loss out at the Emirates back in November against their rivals so will have a bit of revenge on their mind as well going into his one. Spurs could really make a big statement here.

Arsenal haven’t been consistent out on the road in the Premier League season at all, reflected in the fact that they have only won three times away from the Emirates in the top flight this term. Overall the Gunners are W3 D4 L6 for the season away from home and they are winless in three, having lost their last two away games back to back in disappointing defeats against Bournemouth and Swansea. The Gunners have collected just the one away win in their last seven out on her road and with their defence having conceded over 1.5 goals per game away from home this season are going to be vulnerable in the game without question.
