Odds on Tottenham to beat Man City 2018-04-1411th April 2018 / lee
There has been a lot made of the negatives of Manchester City’s last week of action, both in Europe and on the domestic front. But regardless of the dip in form that they are having, the positives that are surrounding Tottenham look good enough for the Londoners to go out and claim themselves a big three points against the league leaders when they meet on Saturday evening in the capital.
Tottenham v Man City Odds*
Tottenham 7/5, Man City 17/10, Draw 13/5* (betting odds taken on March 11th, 2018 at 4:08 p.m.)
The Lilywhites have been moving along in some scintillating form lately. They start the weekend in fourth place, level on points with third-placed Liverpool but with a game in hand over the Merseysiders. They are staring down a massive 17 point to leaders Man City though, but this isn’t about the points. This is just about pride and proving themselves. And of course, trying to Liverpool to third place.
Tottenham are on a six-match winning streak in the Premier League at the moment home and away combined. Breaking that down to their home form the reading gets even better. Since they were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw by West Brom at Wembley back in November, Spurs are W7 D1 in their last eight Premier League home games. So again, even if City weren’t out of form, Tottenham would still have plenty of appeal in this game at 7/5 odds with bet365 to win it outright* (betting odds taken on March 11th, 2018 at 4:08 p.m.).
Each of Tottenham’s last four home wins (and five of their last six) have all been with a clean sheet. So how much temptation will punters find in a Tottenham to win to nil wager at 4/1 odds with bet365* (betting odds taken on March 11th, 2018 at 4:08 p.m.)? Overall this season Tottenham have posted a W10 D4 L1 record at home and they are unbeaten in their last fourteen there as the lone defeated they suffered was against Chelsea in their opening home game of the season.
They have received a massive boost for the end of season run-in too as Harry Kane made it back from injury quicker than expected. Kane has weighed in with 24 goals this season and eleven of those in the league have been at Wembley. But they also have Christian Eriksen in top form still and Heung-Son Min has continued ever so well to their cause going forward. So they have the players to expose a weakness in Man City’s back line.
The Lilywhites do also have some home form against Manchester city having won their last two Premier League home fixtures against the Citizens. Granted those were at White Hart Lane, but given Tottenham’s current form at Wembley that has to be taken into consideration. Tottenham are actually W3 D1 L1 in their last five league games against the Citizens home and away combined so they have the head to head form going for them. Earlier this season when they went to the Etihad they lost 4-1 and so revenge may be a motivating factor too.
In their last three games, the two defeats against Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-final and their league defeat against Manchester United last weekend, City have started to look jaded. The spark, energy and clinical finish has just started to slip away from their gap. Maybe it has been complacency, maybe Liverpool and Manchester United have just shown the rest of the league how to combat and stand toe to toe with Pep Guardiola’s men. It’s been a bad week for City, we have to allude to that.
It’s not just the results though, it is the number of goals that they have given up. City have shipped a total of eight goals in their last three games and not even their powerful attack has been able to live up to that. They can still win the Premier League title this weekend if they win this and Manchester United don’t beat West Brom the following day. But by the looks of things, City may be made to wait a little bit longer as Spurs may have the beating of them.
