Odds on Tottenham to beat Manchester United 2017-10-2827th October 2017 / lee
This is the headlining act of this weekend’s Premier League action. Both United and Spurs are level on points in second and third respectively heading into this clash at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime. Jose Mourinho has seen his side drop four valuable points in their last two league outings and the Red Devils suffered their first defeat of the new season last weekend in a surprising defeat at Huddersfield. Tottenham, in contrast, seems to be picking up the pace and they are on a three match winning streak going into this one. Can the Lilywhites lay down a big statement?
Manchester United v Tottenham Betting Odds
Manchester United 23/10, Draw 12/5, Tottenham 23/10
Tottenham will have plenty of backing in this game at Old Trafford. They will have watched on as Manchester United have dropped four points in their last two league outings, while they themselves have just powered their way to four wins on the bounce in the top flight. Once again they are proving that they are expected to be well in the top four at the end of the season and they are now unbeaten in seven Premier League games, with wins in five of those seven games. They are on point at the moment and not only that they are carrying great away form this season.
Spurs have won all four of their away games this season in the Premier League, scoring at least two goals in each of them. Harry Kane is the 11/8 anytime goalscorer favourite at William Hill for the game, and he got himself another brace last weekend to take his season tally to eight in the top flight. The strengths of Tottenham are not just in their midfield creativity and goals from Kane, they are a solid defensive unit as well and both teams not to score for a price of 19/20 has to have appeal. There is a trend to back that up because only once in the last six Premier League clashes have both teams scored in a match between these two.
Overall this season, Spurs have picked up three clean sheets in their four road games and Tottenham to win to nil at William Hill is a price of 9/2 and they have three clean sheets in four away games. They are sat level on points with Manchester United going into this one and can turn the screw in the battle for supremacy between the two clubs. They are in form and will want to once again prove themselves. They recently produced a great 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League without sitting back in the game.
They get the reverse fixture against the Spanish giants in midweek and they would be excused for having one eye on that. Last weekend Spurs played host to Liverpool and took down the Reds in an emphatic 4-1 victory. This was the Liverpool who Manchester United could only play out a 0-0 draw with recently at Anfield and who were on the back foot for pretty much the ninety minutes against the Reds. That game could be a telling factor for what could be to come in this one.
Jose Mourinho generally sets up defensively in the big games and you can be assured that he would prefer a boring point in this one rather than get all adventurous. They will likely try to just contain the threat of Spurs as opposed to taking the game to them. So that would diminish the chances of a home win. Spurs could prevail where Liverpool fell short though as the Lilywhites have scored twelve goals in their last four league games and are on fire at the moment. Granted Spurs are winless in their last three visits to Old Trafford without scoring, but they will likely mount a very serious challenge for the three points in this one.
Along with that 0-0 draw with Liverpool in which United had an extraordinarily defensive mindset, they followed it up with a shock loss at Huddersfield last weekend. Mourinho criticized his players for a late of attitude and passion in the match. If they don’t bring it again this weekend then they could easily be picked off by a rampant Spurs attack. Either way, a Tottenham Draw No Bet at 11/8 with William Hill has massive appeal.
