Royal birth betting activity still offering options after official announcement6th December 2012 / lee
Following the announcement of the latest Royal pregnancy, with Kate Middleton and Prince William expecting in 2013, online betting site William Hill will be paying out a small five figure sum over the birth of the next Royal. Brave punters who took early wagers on the prospect of a 2013 Royal Baby will have taken profit even from the initial odds which were trading at Evens when the market was launched. As speculations mounted over time that the newlyweds would soon be making an addition to the Royal Family, the odds were trimmed in to as much as 1/10.
Back in 1982 William Hill also had to pay out big on the birth of another Royal. The last time a big sum was stumped up by the betting site, it was over the arrival of Prince Charles and Lady Diana first born son, yes, the very same William. With the markets now closing on the expected arrival of the Royal baby, punters will still have the chance to pick up some profit from newly opened markets surrounding the child that Kate Middleton will deliver to the world next year.
William Hill are offering odds of 10/11 on both options of the child being a boy or a girl. The most exciting market perhaps around the birth is what the baby’s name will be. The favourite options are George, Victoria and Elizabeth (Elizabeth being the incumbent Queen’s name who will be the great-grandmother) at a price of 10/1 with Britain’s biggest bookmaker. Punters will probably be drawn to other options in the market, such as John, Ann/Anne and of course the name Diana if it is a girl. That has been one of the popular draws in the market and Charles is also making a decent shout at a quote of 14/1 along with Louis, Philip and Frances.
Other options for a wager on the Royal baby includes the option of twins at 7/1 and one market which is offering an alternative look, is the colour of the first born’s hair. Brown is outright favourite at odds of 6/4, blonde at 2/1 and black at 5/2. A longer ginger shot can be taken for 8/1.
