Sky Bet punter lands £2k #RequestABet as Bayern destroy Arsenal16th February 2017 / lee
It was a collapse of epic proportions in midweek from Arsenal. Of course we are talking about only one thing, their somewhat inevitable demise out at Bayern Munich in the first leg of their round of sixteen tie against the German powerhouses. The Gunners were sitting well in the game at the half time break, going in with the game at 1-1.
But then Bayern Munich came out and immediately stepped up the gears and tore the Gunners apart in a 5-1 victory. That leaves Arsenal on the brink of exiting the UEFA Champions League at this stage for the seventh consecutive season and it leaves Arsene Wenger most likely, with one foot out of the Emirates’ door as well. It was a shambolic collapse, but for one Sky Bet punter, it was a terrific collapse from the Premier League side.
Sky Bet run a great feature called #RequestABet where you can make a call on just about anything at the bookmaker. You can have a crack at how many corners are going to happen in match, to the amount of yellow cards or just about anything that you can think of which could potentially happen in match, no matter how outrageous. You may fancy over 3 goals in a game and over 6 yellow cards as a #RequestABet.
You dream it up, you ask.
A punter called Max Reid made what would have appeared to be an extremely bold #RequestABet at Sky Bet for Bayern Munich v Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League in midweek. The punter asked for Robert Lewandowski to score a header and Arsenal to miss a penalty in the game and Sky Bet gave him odds of 400/1.
With Arsenal 1-0 down after Arjen Robben had opened the scoring for the hosts, Alexis Sanchez stepped up to get Arsenal back in the game from the penalty spot. He actually missed the spot-kick, but scored with the rebound, so that was half of the #RequestABet done for the punter.
Then Sky Bet’s worst fears were realised as Robert Lewandowski headed home a cross from Philipp Lahm to put the hosts back in front. Reid had placed a 5 stake on the #RequestABet at Sky Bet and while Reid won £2000 SKy Bet announced that with other punters jumping in on the bet, it cost them around £350,000 in total.
