At an emotional press conference on Friday, British tennis legend Andy Murray announced that his time for retirement is pretty close. He said that he had planned to step away from the game after Wimbledon 2019 but the pain that he to play through following his hip surgery last year, may not allow him to get that deep into the season.
Murray admitted that he could be retiring when his Australian Open campaign comes to an end. The Scotsman was in tears at the press conference ahead of the action at Melbourne Park, which starts on Monday. Murray will be leaving having left a major impression on the game. He has won three Grand Slams during his career.
Murray’s first round match at the Australian Open is against Spain’s Roberto Bautista-Agut and Murray is the underdog against the World Number 22. Murray enters the match at 10/3 odds to win* (betting odds was taken from Paddy Power on January 11tth, 2019 at 4:32 pm)
Bookamer Paddy Power announced on Friday that they had taken 56 bets on Murray winning this year’s Australian Open.
Paddy Power went further to announce that they have paid out on each of those 56 bets supporting Murray in Melbourne. Given that Murray has done next to nothing on the court since his surgery last year, winning the Australian Open this year was highly unlikely for him. Murray lost five finals at Melbourne Park during his career when he was on top of his game.
Murray is currently 80/1 odds to win the Australian Open 2019 but the early payout that Paddy Power has issued applies to bets placed online only prior to 11:15 am on January 11th, 2019.
Since 2003 at Wimbledon, either Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray or Novak Djokovic has won the title there. That’s it. No-one else has had a look in, so will things be the same way this year around as the big four scrap it out for the title once again. Andy Murray is the reigning champion having won it for the second time last year in beating Milos Raonic in the final. Will it be a victor coming from the big four of the game once again at SW19?
It could be another epic battle between them all.
If you are backing the big four all to come good at SW19 this season then you can take advantage of a huge Crowd Powered Price available at Paddy Power!

Well, what a cracker of a men’s draw at Wimbledon we should be in for over the next couple of weeks. Former champion and former world number one Novak Djokovic has been having a difficult season and hasn’t been in top form and that will increase the chances of the other big players in the draw. Andy Murray is the one who will be defending the title after winning his second Wimbledon title last year after beating Milos Raonic in the final.
The British home hope will have plenty of backing at SW19 and so too will outright favourite and legend Roger Federer who is looking to claim his eighth title there. He has been brilliant this season, claiming the Australian Open title already and carefully selecting his tournaments to manage his workload. Then there is Rafael Nadal, who has enjoyed a tremendous season of his own, having claimed yet another French Open title. Will he put it together on grass?

Wimbledon defending champion Andy Murray will be back at SW19 searching for his third title there. There have been reports that he is suffering from a bit of a hip injury, and illness and injury has been working against him all season long. But then, you look at his run to the final four at Roland Garros, on the clay which is his least productive surface, and it still proved that when it comes time for the Grand Slam, Murray is there stepping up his game.
He went into Roland Garros with no form and he still managed to put together a big run. Contrasting reports to his hip injury is that he was feeling good after some practice sessions on Friday. With Novak Djokovic having his own problems with form this season, it pretty much leaves Roger Federer as the main threat to Murray’s title defence at Wimbledon this year. Will Murray be able to come through again and delight the passionate crowds at SW19?

Who will be crowned Wimbledon Champion this season at the third Grand Slam of the season? It is summertime in England and therefore the strawberries and cream will be flowing as punters take in the action on the courts. Home hopes rest on Andy Murray in the men’s and Johanna Konta in the women’s draw. This season the men’s draw, because of frailties among the big four, looks mightily interesting.
Andy Murray has been plagued with illness and injury this season, while Novak Djokovic hasn’t found any form since January. Then you have Rafa Nadal who has produced nothing at Wimbledon since a 2011 loss in the final, and all of that leaves the evergreen Roger Federer as the outright favourite this year. But punters may fancy opposing the big four with dangerous youngsters in the field like Alexander Zverev and the rising star that is Dominic Thiem, who has already beaten Murray, Djokovic and Nadal this season.
Roger Federer 9/4, Andy Murray 10/3, Rafael Nadal 9/2, Novak Djokovic 6/1, Milos Raonic 14/1, Marin Cilic 14/1, Alexander Zverev 16/1, Nick Kyrgios 16/1, Grigor Dimitrov 20/1, Stan Wawrinka 25/1, Dominic Thiem 28/1, Juan Martin del Potro 28/1, bar 50/1.

Will Andy Murray be able to go one better than last season’s effort and claim his first ever French Open Grand Slam title? Will Novak Djokovic be able to successfully defend his title? These are pretty big questions because neither have been running in particularly good form this season with just the one title each posted for 2017. Both have been having some real struggles to find their form and that opens up the field naively for others.
It is Rafael Nadal who is Paddy Power outright favourite to win the French Open for what would be the tenth time in his career. This is his sportingly home and after some superbly strong showings on the clay swing of the ATP this season already, he is the one to beat. Will the slump in form of both Djokovic and Murray open up the door for the likes of Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Thiem to be able to make strong runs this season?
There is a massive fortnight of top tennis action to come from Paris, Paddy Power are running a huge promotion.
