Two El Clasico fixtures in the space of four days. It doesn’t get much better than that really. Real Madrid and Barcelona will be showing down once again at the Bernabeu on the weekend. In midweek Barcelona went there and destroyed their opponents in the Copa del Rey.
Will it be more of the same from the Catalans who are driving towards a league title? The odds on Barcelona to beat Real Madrid are at 13/10* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 28th, 20198 at 7:03 pm) which makes them favourites
Real Madrid 9/5

Barcelona arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night for the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi final. Things stood even at 1-1 after the first leg, Barcelona having had to fight back from being behind in that game. So they were expecting a tough challenge but they found the going fairly easy on the night as they pulled away to a 3-0 win which included a brace from Luis Suarez.
Suarez had been on a five-match goal drought but has now scored three goals in his last two games for the Catalans. That was a superb display from them and that should have given them a tremendous lift for this quick return. Barcelona are currently top of La Liga by seven points over Atletico Madrid, with Real Madrid a further two points back. So a win here for Barcelona and that would see them take a big step towards another league title.
Barcelona are running on a thirteen match undefeated streak of league form at the moment and they have not lost any of their last nine on the road. They have collected win in five of their last six away from the Nou Camp (W1). Barcelona are the top scorers in the league this season with a 65-goal haul. That is 22 more than what Real Madrid have managed to produce across the course of the season.
Barcelona have the upper hand in the recent head to head between themselves and their rivals Real Madrid. Barcelona are on a five-match undefeated streak of form against Los Merengues now. Following their midweek win at the Bernabeu, that is back to back 3-0 success there in all competitions from Barcelona. Barcelona have only lost one of their last four visits there as well across all competitions. So they have reason to turn up with confidence.
Real Madrid lost their last home game, a 2-1 reverse against Girona. That was a big upset but it was their second defeat in their last four games on home soil actually in the league. Throw in their midweek defeat against Barcelona and it’s not been going too well for them. While their form has been better than it was over the first part of the season, there are cracks which are starting to appear there.
It looks as if half of their team could be leaving in the summer. Gareth Bale who scored a winning penalty last weekend at Levante didn’t want to celebrate with his teammates. He is available to play in this one after not being punished for a celebration gesture in a previous match. Sergio Ramos has a cloud hanging over him after being charged with deliberately receiving a booking in the Champions League. Then there is their recent form which hasn’t been great.
Barcelona can make a bold statement in this one. Real Madrid didn’t really have an answer against them in the Copa del Rey. They will be a bit more dialled in this one, but you get the impression it’s not going to take much for their heads to drop if Barcelona get themselves in front. The odds on Barcelona to beat Real Madrid away from home at 13/10 look a pretty good offering for this big El Clasico showdown* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 28th, 20198 at 7:03 pm).
The big Madrid derby, the first of the season happens on the weekend in La Liga. This is going to be one of the highlights of the weekend’s football action. Real Madrid are sitting in second place in the league, one place and two points ahead of their rivals Atletico. There will be some added pressure on home side Real to come up with the win after suffering a big loss in midweek.

Real Madrid needs to pick themselves up after they were floored in midweek against Sevilla. In Wednesday night’s action in La Liga, Barcelona had suffered a shock defeat against bottom side Leganes and so Real Madrid had a chance to climb above the Catalans with a result out at Sevilla later that evening. But Los Blancos suffered their first defeat of the season and it was a crushing one at 3-0.
So for the first time this season they will have their resolve tested in having to recover from a loss. Losing momentum before a big Madrid derby is the last thing that they would have wanted, but at least in such a big game, there is not going to be any question about mentality. They are going to be up for this on home soil against their city rivals. Home soil is where Real Madrid have flourished as well this season.
Real Madrid has won all three of their home games in La Liga this season, scoring a total of seven goals across that sequence of games. They have taken a clean sheet in two of those three as well so their home form stands up. That is going to be important for them to try and break out three points in this derby match, after having drawn their last three against Atletico in all competitions (90 minutes).
The most recent was the European Super Cup back in August, which Real did go on to lose in extra time. But they are on an unbeaten run of four matches on home soil in all competitions against Atletico and with a W1 D3 record. So that is a solid pointer that they aren’t likely to lose this La Liga fixture on the weekend. The question is, can they find that winning touch now they need it most?
If the win comes for Real Madrid then it is likely to be by the narrowest of margins. A Real Madrid to win by a 1 goal margin is at 11/4 odds* (betting odds taken on September 28th, 2018 at 5:23 pm). Considering that they have so far only concerned the one goal on home soil this season and they will be facing an Atletico side who have not been at their best on their travels yet, that does appear to offer some value.
Atletico Madrid are just W1 D1 L1 in their three away games this season and with just the one clean sheet on the board. So there should be chances for Real Madrid in this one, although the outcome of the match is likely to stay under 2.5 goals. Five of the last six Madrid derby matches between the two sides at the Bernabeu have finished under the goal line.
Real Madrid needs to show the mental strengths to bounce back from that harrowing midweek set back. This is the perfect opportunity in which to show their strengths and their true selves. With the threat of Gareth Bale and youngsters like Isco and Asensio, they are valuae to right those midweek wrong and get a narrow win in the first Madrid derby of the season.
The European Super Cup takes place on Wednesday night, the annual UEFA feature match pitting the reigning Champions League holders against the reigning Europa League holders. This season there is a bit of added spice as it is a Madrid derby that we get. It is a huge Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid showdown that we are looking at for the 2018 UEFA Super Cup and there are 6/4 odds on Real Madrid to beat Atletico Madrid out in Tallinn* (betting odds taken on August 13th, 2018 at 11:32 pm).
Real Madrid 6/4
Atletico Madrid 2/1

This will be the first-ever UEFA club final to be hosted in Estonia, with the match being played at the A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn. The kick-off has been moved as well from the usual 7:45 pm to an 8.00 pm start so watch out for that. Other changes to the match involve the number of substitutes that can be named having been raised from 7 to 12 and if the game goes to extra time then a fourth substitution is allowed.
Real Madrid are the reigning Super Cup holders having won it three times in the last four editions. They are looking for a hat-trick of titles in the match having won it back to back in 2016 and 2017. The Spaniards are back in the match courtesy of their UEFA Champions League Final victory over Liverpool earlier this year, which was their third straight triumph in the tournament. The 6/4 odds on Real Madrid to beat Atletico Madrid* (betting odds taken on August 13th, 2018 at 11:32 pm) will have a lot of appeal for punters.
It has been a big summer of change for the club. After their Champions League success, head coach Zinedine Zidane stunned everyone by walking away from his position. So Real Madrid have a new man in charge at that is former Spain boss Julen Lopetegui, who was removed ahead of the World Cup from his position with the national side because he had taken up the job with Real Madrid to have started after the tournament. But his timing caused a ruckus and Spain ditched him.
They have also lost one of their greatest players ever, with Cristiano Ronaldo parting ways with them after nine years at the club. He has moved on to Juventus now leaving a pretty big void to fill. That will likely fall on the shoulders of Gareth Bale the most to fill the void and he is the 5/1 first goalscorer favourite at bet365* (betting odds taken on August 13th, 2018 at 11:32 pm). He showed up well during the International Champions Cup in the summer, a series of friendly matches which really is the only guide we have to go on. Real Madrid went W2 D1 in their three matches there.
They will be taking on Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid who just continue to tick along in their usual strong fashion. They have added a good couple of pieces of Thomas Lemar and Nikola Kalinic over the summer to bolster them as an attacking force. This is their third appearance in the Super Cup and they won their two previous ones. With Antoine Griezmann extending his stay with the club and Diego Costa having returned this year, they are shaping up pretty well and there is quite a youthful set up throughout the rest of the squad.
Like Real Madrid, they were involved in the International Champions Cup in the summer but they didn’t win any of their games, including a game on the weekend against Inter Milan which they lost 1-0. Atletico Madrid failed to score in two of those three games at the International Cup and so maybe they need a little time to get their new pieces all together. They are likely to be without Griezmann too who returned to training late after his World Cup success.
They do look as if they are closing the gap on their rivals as well as Barcelona and they may well put together a good season in La Liga. But can they pull out enough to get the better of their biggest rivals? Three of the last five editions of the Super Cup have been level at 90 minutes and the last two occasions that it has been Spain v Spain in the match, they have gone to extra time. Three of the last five meetings between Real and Atletico have been drawn as well.
There is no real form to look at from either side here and all we can really go by is what they respectively churned out in the International Champions Cup. Of the two Real were the ones who had their eye for goal a little bit more in tune than Atletico and we are going to back Real Madrid to Lift the Trophy at 3/4 odds* (betting odds taken on August 13th, 2018 at 11:32 pm).
The UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday night is the first bit of silverware that is up for grabs from UEFA. This, of course, pits last season’s’ UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League winners together. There is nothing like starting the new season with a bit of silverware and this one is being played in Skopje, Macedonia. Real Madrid have a W3 L2 record from their five previous appearances in the Super Cup while Manchester United have a W1 L2 record from their three previous appearances. In the head to head between the two, this will be the 11th meeting, with Real Madrid being 4-2 up.
The 2012/13 UEFA Champions League round of sixteen was the last time that we saw these two sides battle it out, with Madrid winning through 3-2 on aggregate. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal in both legs of that tie and will be a huge threat to the United defence once again. Real Madrid are on a ten match unbeaten streak against English Premier League opposition (W7 D3) while United can boast a W8 D3 L1 record in their last eleven European matches as they picked up the Europa League title last season.

Manchester United and Real Madrid meet up for the second time this summer as the two square off in the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday night. They played a game at the International Champions Cup out in the USA which ended in a 1-1 draw. But neither were anywhere near strength for the game and this is far more serious business for them to get into. The match pits last season’s Europa League winners United against the Champions League winners Real Madrid and it is the Spaniards who are trading as 10/11 favourites. But will the Red Devils be able to catch them cold ahead of their respective domestic seasons?

Real Madrid 10/11, Draw 11/4, Manchester United 14/5
The Community Shield is in the bag for the season which means that the start of the Premier League season is right here. But before Manchester United can get their domestic title underway, they have to go to Macedonia on Tuesday night to face Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup. There’s quite a price for success it would seem. This extra game that United have to fit in is because of their winning the UEFA Europa League last season against Ajax. Manchester United and Real Madrid are no strangers to success of course and this will be a clash between two of the continent’s most decorated clubs.
Obviously, this isn’t the most important trophy that either of them will be playing for this season, but it is a piece of silverware nonetheless. In beating Ajax in that Europa League Final earlier in the summer, Manchester United became the fifth side to win all three major UEFA club competitions with that success. United have played three Super Cup matches before and have a W1 L2 record from that, winning their first ever appearance in 1991 as they beat FK Crvena Zvezda while losing in 1999 to Lazio and then in 2008 they lost against Zenit St Petersburg.
No club from England has won the UEFA Super Cup since Liverpool’s success in 2005 with Chelsea and United losing attempts since then. The Red Devils are underdogs for this one and both teams to score at bet365 is a price of 4/6 while big summer signing Romelu Lukaku is up at a price of 13/8 in the anytime goalscorer market. This will be the 11th meeting between United and Real Madrid, with United trailing 2-4 in the head to head. The goal count is close though 20-16 in favour of Madrid from those meetings.
The 2012/13 Champions League was the last time that United and Real Madrid squared off and the Spaniards won that tie 3-2, helped out by a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo in both legs. The former Red Devil is a price of 11/4 in the Bet365 First Goalscorer market. Real Madrid lifted the Champions League trophy again last season, becoming the first side ever to win it in back to back seasons and they can boast a winning pedigree in the UEFA Super Cup, with them having gone W3 L2 from their previous five. After losing their first two appearances in the UEFA Super Cup, they have won their last three on the bounce.
No team has won successive UEFA Super Cups since AC Milan in 1989 and 1990 so the Spaniards can get another piece of history here. Spain have triumphed in the last three UEFA Super Cups, and in seven of the last eight. Over 2.5 goals at bet365 is a price of 8/11. Although Real Madrid start their domestic season a week later than United start theirs, Los Merengues will be in action in the Spanish Super Cup next weekend so should be close to full match sharpness by now.
Real Madrid have lost one of their last 18 European matches and are unbeaten in their last ten games against Premier League opposition (W7 D3). Madrid’s overall record against English clubs is P34 W14 D10 L10. United are on an unbeaten 11 match streak in Europe and their record is W13 D20 L16 against La Liga opposition.
Who will get their hands on that much-coveted UEFA Champions League trophy? Real Madrid would be collecting it for the second season running if they win in Cardiff on Saturday night and that will create history. They would be the first ever to win back to back Champions League titles. Real Madrid are the favourites for the final, but they face an unbeaten Juventus side from this season’s campaign and while the Spaniards boast all attacking power in the world, they face a Juventus side who have conceded just three goals in this season’s campaign. The Italians too, cruised past Barcelona in the semi finals without conceding a goal. So will their defence be able to keep the powerful Spaniards at bay in what could be one of the great classic European finals between these two clubs, each boasting a rich history?
