Paddy Power settles Andy Murray AO 2019 bets as winners

Paddy Power

At an emotional press conference on Friday, British tennis legend Andy Murray announced that his time for retirement is pretty close. He said that he had planned to step away from the game after Wimbledon 2019 but the pain that he to play through following his hip surgery last year, may not allow him to get that deep into the season.

Murray admitted that he could be retiring when his Australian Open campaign comes to an end. The Scotsman was in tears at the press conference ahead of the action at Melbourne Park, which starts on Monday. Murray will be leaving having left a major impression on the game. He has won three Grand Slams during his career.

Murray’s first round match at the Australian Open is against Spain’s Roberto Bautista-Agut and Murray is the underdog against the World Number 22. Murray enters the match at 10/3 odds to win* (betting odds was taken from Paddy Power on January 11tth, 2019 at 4:32 pm)

Bookamer Paddy Power announced on Friday that they had taken 56 bets on Murray winning this year’s Australian Open.

Paddy Power went further to announce that they have paid out on each of those 56 bets supporting Murray in Melbourne. Given that Murray has done next to nothing on the court since his surgery last year, winning the Australian Open this year was highly unlikely for him. Murray lost five finals at Melbourne Park during his career when he was on top of his game.

Murray is currently 80/1 odds to win the Australian Open 2019 but the early payout that Paddy Power has issued applies to bets placed online only prior to 11:15 am on January 11th, 2019.

Andy Murray and Johanna Konta are still flying the flag for the home support at Wimbledon and both were well backed at the end of the first week of action to go and win their respective titles.

But all of the big four in the men’s draw are competing which means that it remains wide open. The Women’s draw is even wider open with any of the last sixteen players standing looking as if they have a decent chance of putting a good run together. The second Monday is a special day at Wimbledon because it is the only one of the Grand Slams were all eight fourth round matches in both the men’s and the women’s draws are played on the same day.

Wimbledon Monday, July 10th, Men’s Draw Acca Crowd Boost at Sky Bet

Skybet

Monday looks as if it is going to be a pretty epic day of tennis action at Wimbledon. The Grand Slam action is really hotting up now as we head into the second week of action and all of the big four in the men’s draw will be playing on Monday. Yes, fans will get to see Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal all in action on Monday in what is going to be a huge day of tennis betting action to come.

The path to the quarter finals looks pretty comfortable for each of them as well, so if that happens, then we will be just that closer to some heavy-weight showdowns at the Grand Slam. None of the big four should really have any issues in getting through their matches on Monday. Nadal will be taking on 16th seed Gilles Muller, at the same time as reigning champion Andy Murray will be facing off against the unseeded Benoit Paire.

Later in the day, Novak Djokovic will be stepping onto the court against Adrian Mannarino and at the same time, outright favourite Roger Federer will be facing 13th seed, Grigor Dimitrov. So while Nadal and Federer have the toughest games, it would be a shock if all four of them wasn’t in the quarter final line up.

Sky Bet are running a Crowd Boosted Accumulator on Murray, Federer and Nadal each to win 3-0 in the fourth round on Monday. That price started out at 9/2 then went up to 5/1 and if enough punters jump on the special action, then the price will go up even further to a 6/1 quote!

Each week you can claim a free £5 bet with bookmaker SkyBet. This is because they run their great Sky Bet Club which is open to all punters. After opening an account with the bookmaker (where you can claim a free £20 bet bonus) you can go and opt into the Sky Bet Club. There, just make £25 worth of qualifying bets each week before 11.59:59 pm on Sunday evening and you will be credited with a free £5 bet to use! Just stay in the club by making the qualifying bets each week and you can keep collecting the free bets!

Bookmakers fearing a Murray & Konta Wimbledon double blow

Ladbrokes

What an occasion it would be over at SW19 if Andy Murray and Johanna Konta could walk away with the men’s and women’s titles respectively this summer. That would the grandest of Grand Slams from the home perspective of course. After going into the tournament with very little backing, reigning champion Andy Murray has seen a lot more action going down on him in the outright winner market, after some steady progress through the tournament.

He seems to be up for the fight and is generally playing with outright aggression, which isn’t his normal game. After a season disrupted by illness and injury, perhaps he is just letting it all out. Murray is an 11/2 shot at Ladbrokes to win the Wimbledon title for the third time to go and defend his title successfully, but he still has Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer knocking around the tournament.

But Murray is in the mix and the crowds are playing their part. They are taking well to Johanna Konta as well, who is further into the tournament than ever before. The plucky and classy 26 year old showed all the fight in the world in beating Donna Vekic in the second round and she goes to the second week of action at SW19 as 9/2 outright favourite at Ladbrokes. That was after beating back at 12/1 ahead of the tournament.

While there is pressure on her now to perform, the early exit of tournament favourite Karolina Pliskova will help Konata’s cause a lot. So can the Brit, roared on by the home support go all the way and land what would be her first Grand Slam title, even though the grass isn’t her strongest surface?

Just imagine if Murray and Konta both won titles at Wimbledon this year and just imagine what kind of financial damage that would do to bookmakers.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s rare we find ourselves in a position like this, but Serena Williams’ absence has blown the door wide open for a patriotic double for punters.”

“Both Murray and Konta have been great so far, and that’s left plenty thinking it could be a record-breaking Wimbledon for Britain.”

Register an account with online betting site Ladbrokes and earn a free £50 bet as a welcome bonus from them.
